Backstory/History - aka, where they have been between DH and Ascendant, and beyond: Hermione grew up in the Muggle-world, with no brothers or sisters. Her parents have always been supportive and proud of her, and she's gotten along with them for most of her life. She was delighted to have the opportunity to attend Hogwarts, for she had been ridiculed by her classmates for being overly geeky and smart. She had always felt different than the other children, though she didn't realize just how different she was until she started reading the texts of the wizard world. Once the got the opportunity to learn about a whole new world, one that was fresh and hadn't shunned her, she began reading everything that she could get her hands on.

Through her years at Hogwarts, she strove to be the absolute best she could, but she was also willing to help her friends and those in need. She gained the praise from various professors and students, and was very happy to have Ron and Harry as her best friends. She always felt that her friends needed her help, though with the war, she came to realize that her close friends held many more strengths than she had thought. While she noticed this, she's still always had the feeling that her friends need her, and she always plans to be there for them.

With certain events that occurred in her years at Hogwarts, along with her own torment from her old classmates, those who were/seemed helpless pulled on Hermione's heart strings. She wanted more than nothing to help the weak and defenseless, to make the world a better place for everyone. Certain magical creatures (especially house elves), played a big part in her desire to help, along with certain people being ridiculed (a prime example being Neville).

How the war affected them: Many of the events of the war brought out the depths of her personality. She realized that someone needed to help those who couldn't fend for themselves: having the grasp on magical ability and knowledge that she did, she decided that that someone was her. The deaths of those were who were close to her and her best friends weighed heavy on her heart, and likely always will. Though it was hard for her to return to Hogwarts to complete her NEWTS (though, she would never admit it), she knew that she had to, if she were going to help those in need. She has always known that Ron and Harry weren't helpless, especially Harry, but with the events surrounding the war, both of them proved to her how strong they were. A part of her still feels that the both of them may always need her for some such thing, and she knows that she will always be there for either of them, should they be in need. The death of George Weasley took a large toll on her as well, since she was so closely knit with Ron, as well as Ginny.
